I'm going to use this thread to post my race results during the vintage MX season. I'll start with the AVDRA race at Speedworld near Phoenix last weekend. Before I start, During the season I'll be racing in both AVDRA and AHRMA events, there are some differences in the classes, though minor,so I'll list the classes here.

Vintage

AVDRA 125 vintage=AHRMA 125 sportsman  There are a few minor diffrences but in both classes, the bike to have is the original honda CR125, stiff competition.

Post vintage

AVDRA 125 GPII=AHRMA This gets a little more tricky, think of a combination of GP and Ultima classes, as the GP class is for twin shock with more than 9 inches of travel and the Ultima is for single shock bikes including watercooled units. AVDRA makes the distinction at watercooling. So in AVDRA the PV bike that I built (see " My other AHRMA project" in the XL125 section)  runs in 125 GPII in AVDRA and 125 Ultima in AHRMA (providing they let me race it, they have been known to be a little weird about thier own rule interpretations at times)

AVDRA 4X12 This is a class for Four stroke bikes with more than 9 inches of travel=AHRMA Again think of a combination of GP and Ultima. to avoid anymore confusion than I may have allready created I'm only covering the classes that I'm racing. for more info go to AVDR.com and AHRMA.org

AVDRA GP4X9 This class is for four strokes with up to 9 inches of travel, I include this class dscription because it will come up from time to time describing some bikes that may be on the line with me.

On to the good stuff, race results.

AVDRA feb 8-10 Speed world just outside of Phoenix.

vintage 125 intermediate. Riding the XL125 there were 3 in my class and 5 experts on the gate with us, I was 4th by the second turn in both motos and went 1-1 for the class win and in the process beat 2 of the experts.

GPII 125 intermediate. Riding my PV bike there were 2 in my class and 4 experts on the gate with us I went 1-1 for the win, the experts just left use in this class.

GP4X12 intermedaite. again on my PV bike there were 2 in my class and 1 GP4X9 int and 1 GP4X9 expert on the gate. the big 4 strokes have a horsepower advantage on the straights I have more of an advantage in braking corneres and jumps. Moto1 after running down and passing the GP4X9 bikes I was getting closer to my opponent when I thought I saw the Checkerd flag and pulled off of the track turned out I pulled off a lap early and got a dnf for the moto. Moto 2 ran down and passed The GP4X9 bikes and then passed my opponent who was on a heavily modifed TT600, to win the moto.

All in all a very good start to the 2008 race season.

Cheers Beers n Gearz. Joe

Upcoming events,

In April I have a local (more or less) race in Sidney Nebraska on the 12th or 13th (there is some confusion as to the actual date, I'll let every one know when it's cleared up) I'm fairly certin that it's the 13th, as thats sunday.

in May I have an AVDRA national in Livermore CA. on the 10th and 11th, and an AHRMA national in Millikin CO. (this also counts as a local race for me) the next weekend, the 17th and 18th.

If anybody is near any of my races during the year, come out to the track, I'd like to meet ya', I'll be easy to find, you can just about count on my being the only one there with an XL125 and a KX125 based XL125.

Sorry about the delay,

The race in Nebraske was postponed and the scedueled for sat. the 26th on top of another local race in Berthoud Co. on the 27th, so I went to Brethoud.

Our new vintage culb has created it's own st of classes so it's a little confusing as the classes don't translate well with the existing classes, I'm lobyying the club to adapt the AVDRA class stuctur to end the confusion, especilly wit two of the AVDRA western states serries counting for points in the new club.

enuogh of the politics on to sundays results.

Vintage 0-200, second place, in all fairness the guy that beat me was the Sportsman 125 int class champion for 2006 and really shoud have been moved up to expert by now, he pulled a hugh lead on me by the first lap and a half in both motos then got tired ( he claims to have not ridden since the AHRMA national at Milliken Co. last may) and then I would start reeling him in, I got to where I was close at the end of the moto.

GP 0-200, first place, was racing with the back of the expert class.

GP 50+ first place.

The rider evaluation commite told me sunday that they have thier eyes on me, I expect that they will move me to expert before the end of the year.

Cheers Bers n Gearz. Joe

AVDRA race at Livermore Ca. 5-11-08

Vintage 125 int. won the class, beating the 1 vintage 125 expert that was on the line with us.

GP-2 125 Int. won the first moto, second in the second moto after developing a missfire that I latter traced down to a bad spark plug ( It was an NGK Iridium, after finding the problem I learned that the guy that did my head work has also had problems with them)

GP4X12 Int. won the first moto on Kermit, in the second moto I rode my XL as a back up bike and still won the class, as well as beating several much faster and better suspended bikes.

AHRMA race Milliken Co. 5-17-18-08

Sportsman 125 Int. second in the first moto, Third in the second moto, inspite of getting run off the track on the first lap, third overall

Ultima 125 int. won the first moto, second in the second moto, second overall, as the weather got hotter the bike was having some carb issues running real rich in midrange

50+ Int. this was a really fast class, fourth in the first moto, after getting a really bad start ( last in the first turn, 10 in the class ) third in the second moto for third overall.

this was a really hectic couple of weeks, with the run to Cali and back and only a couple of days to prep the bikes for the following weekend, I'm glad thats over.

Next up,

June 15th A local race at Berthoud Co. and then another short turn around for An AVDRA race in Fernly Nv. on June 22, here we go again.

Here are some pics from the AHRMA race

In the second to last pic, #73 is the a--hole that ran me off the track in the second moto.

A very special thanks goes out to MXPhotography for the awsome pics!!!
