I am building up a race engine using a GL145 crank (same stroke as 125 except lighter as has two small webs) and a 185 piston and barrel.

I have taken quite a bit of meat off the barrel, and have milled 0.040"  off the crankcases too, have machined a chamfer into the piston and the head to allow the piston to protrude up into the combustion chamber more to get more compression out of it.

The squish is still slightly too big I think at around 1-1.5mm, but I am concerned about the piston to valve clearance, it appears to have only about 0.050", is this going to be enough, or is it going to chernobyl? How much do I need?

Any advice would be great, cheers,

Sam

RE:Minimum Piston to valve clearance?
(Date Posted:10/07/2008 1:49 AM)

Well this is what I generally use for my car engine builds,
.080" on intake valves and .100" on exhaust valves when using steel connecting rods.
With aluminum connecting rods .100" on intake and .120" on exhaust
