I think I will pass on MO but I'm thinking about doing Barber---if AHRMA and AMA are a week apart there I might just work both--rent a car and go up and drink near beer on PJ's stump------

I for one am planning to attend Mid-O this year - as I haven't missed one in the last five or six straight. I think it was either last year or the one before that my dad came out and worked the track - it was hot. *really hot*. This year BMW will be the marque and I can't wait (as usual) for Vintage Days to arrive once more! If you've never been to Vintage Day's and Mid-Ohio...you must. Especially if you're looking for bikes or parts for bikes. Bring a hat and sunglasses.

Rock On Oldrice!
Look for me in the competitor's camping area with my TL and XL...or watch the trials on Friday...I plan to arrive as soon as they open the gates and leave Sunday Morning...

well, that's embarassing--AMA was saturday and sunday at Barber---looks like I'm not planning too well this year. somehow I thought it was in late september or october-- who knows maybe I will make m.o. but if I do it won't be as a worker--they are light years behind in creature comforts for the poor corner workers there (or I'm just spoiled with AFM)----

Murray--that was kind of a watershed weekend for me-- haven't been the same since--I think it may have been the air travel on top of standing in the hot sun--- last year I got a heatstroke on my way over to work the Thunderhill race in central/north CA and took a year off. Worked at sears this last weekend and it was hot--feet and ankles were swollen again sunday evening (looked like alley oop) and on the way home I got a thing called "tunnel vision"----I always thought that was a term for staying focused on the job at hand or not being able to see another point of view---seems it is really a medical condition--like if you painted your eyeglasses and then scratched a hole in the center of each to see out of-- plenty of periphery vision and that little hole in the center but zero, zip for those deer that might be charging in from the side of the road--got panicky and went real slow up hwy 101. took about 4 hours to do a 2 hour trip---on tuesday the eye doctor told me it was a type of migraine--nothing wrong with the eyes----also no treatment or way to predict when it will happen again-- I may have to stay close for a while--(like when I'm reincarnated?)---might have to take up something easy like trials riding (racing?)------
would it be fair to say that trials is to bike riding like cricket is to ball playing?

I know what you mean about the heat...I help put on an airshow every year (I end up being in charge of the flight line), during the setup day, it gets really hot, thank goodness I get to spend the next 2 days in a golf cart with a roof!
We have a saying in aviation (and boats, I believe) you don't ever want to go faster than you want to hit something. Thats what I like about Trials! (that and my Dad did back in the 30's), it also seems more like man and machine against nature that rider against rider...

I think I'm going to have to bail on the Vintage Days trip to Mid-Ohio this year. That sucks big time but - oh well. I'll be visiting my brother instead. Many many acres of dirt bike riding instead at his place but it still won't be the same.

It's almost "sensory overload"...I really don't have any current projects that need parts that I don't already have, so this year I was just walking around in a daze...overwhelmed.

Larry,
You *need* to go next year. Imagine a 20x20 carpet with a ton of stuff on it for sale at pennies on the dollar. Every motorcycle man has ever created. Every part for every motorcycle ever created. Sometimes more than one, and sometimes yours was just sold to that guy over there walking away. Now imagine over a thousand of those 20x20 carpets. You can not see every piece in one day. It's awesome. I'm really sad I missed it this year. But the silver lining is that I'll be able to go to Laguna Seca next year because I missed all my mc trips this year. Mid-Ohio has this Vintage Motorcycle Days (Daze) every year and every year it gets bigger and bigger. You should visit the site (www.mid-ohio.com w/or w/out the hyphen. I can't remember) and subscribe to "Finish Lines" which is Mid-Ohio's little pamphlet they mail you which provides all the info you need for camping, renting spots or daily or weekend passes. Every year I've gone we've come back with at least one whole running bike. Not to mention spares, bike ramps, t-shirts, etc,... It's a LOT of fun - but don't bring the kids unless they'll only be there for a few hours. Wives and kids get bored with it fast due to sensory overlaod and being inundated with too much moto information all at once. It's for us. We can not only handle it - it's a necessary resource for sustaining life as only we know it. And the following weekend is the AMA Superbike races.

I should be arriving on Thursday a.m. to set up camp and help out setting up the trials. I will be riding the TL, since the TMI will be in the frame shop. I will also have an XL650 that a frield is going to loan me to try out...

This years marque is Ducati (cool!) and I do plan on attending since I missed last years. I'll probably bring the XL350 to ride around on. I'll try to get there early Friday morning and find a place to either camp or find a hotel room. I can't think of a better bike to ride around that place on. Vintage Honda XL350 - Woohoo! Anybody want to meet up?

I'm glad to hear that Geoff...I am planning on being there as early on Thursday as they will let me in, so that I can get my camp setup and still have time to help set up the Trials...
I'll email you my cell number...call me when you get in on Friday morning and I'll buy you a cup of coffee...all I will be doing is sitting around...being nervous...

It's right around the corner folks - next thing you know it'll be history. Mid-Ohio Vintage Days! I don't know about you guys, but I love this thing - I always get excited about it around this time of year. I'm at an impass right now - Currently looking for a room with a pool (for the kids). Personally, I'd like to camp in a tent but we'll have to wait and see just how serious the missus is about going this year. Woohoo!

Well, the missus has spoken. It seems everyone is going and we'll all be staying at the Quality Inn off of I97 just south east of Lexington. It's only about 4 miles from the track and best of all - it's a present to us from my in-laws! (their tab!) Thanks Mah! I can't wait. I have already scheduled the days off with my boss - no problem there! I will CERTAINLY be bringing my XL350 too. Yipee! I haven't had a moto weekend since the last time I was in Cali with my dad last year. I understand RonBuell won't be able to make it. Anyone else going? Maybe I should look into some hats or t-shirts or something with the XL Board or XL Page on it. Any ideas? I really like the silkscreened graphics used by the NWTT (North West Thumpers eTc.) list. I have one of their denim shirts. Very nice. Anyone got a illustration of the XL350 motor?

Hey Geoff...
I will be there on Thursday AM (camping...I'm glad they bring in that huge shower truck, Thurs am to Sun pm can be a looong time between showers...).
I wouldn't miss it though...the road ride this year will be the '93 XR650L loaner...and of course the TL for the Trails on Friday...
Can't wait...

Awesome! Yeah, everybody around me loved those trucks too...or..were they trying to tell me something?
Yeah, I can't wait. We're all excited on the home front for this event. I'm trying as hard as I can to get the little SL125 going as that's really the ideal bike for riding around that place. Thinking of making some kind of tripod mounted cover for shade when riding it - might look like a hang-glider when I'm done.
Anyone come up with any ideas yet for t-shirts or hats or...? Or should we just forget it?

Come up with a t-shirt idea and I will help with some $ if need be (I'm not very good at the creative stuff)...but unless we can get PJ (the only other person I know on this board close enough to go) to come, you and I may be the only "XL Board" people there...
got the paper work for the AHRMA events and the Trials is supposed to start at 10 am on Friday, so maybe we will be through in time to make it to Ashland for the dirt track stuff Friday night...
BTW as an AHRMA competitor, I get an extra weekend cold pass that I will not be using...

I wonder if we could get enough members together to get a spot in the swap meet... and I'm *sure* we all have a few odds and ends related to these old XL's that we could bring - free membership to the XL Board with every purchase!...heh.

That would be cool...if I couldn't sell anything, I could give it all to you!...hahahahaha
I read, somewhere, that a swap meet site is $175 this year...of course the main problem would be manning the darn thing...I'll be too busy trialing and looking...

Good Deal!
I will be getting there early on Thursday morning (to set up camp and help layout the Trials...) I usually camp on the North side of the competitors' camping area (next to the tree line).
Red Jeep Cherokee, Little TL and BIG XR ...
BTW...Come watch the Trials on Friday...I promise to be the fattest guy out there on a TL250!

I'll be looking for all of you. I have a '04 Black Chevy Silverado truck and it'll probably have my XL350 in the back unless I'm riding it. Either way, I'll have a red Alpinestars hat on too. I'll probably be there around lunch time on Friday - give r take. You know how it is with three other people in the truck. Are we there yet? Are we there yet? I'll probably have to go straight to the hotel first and either let them off or whatever. I would start collecting and packing for this trip but it's kinda hard to do away from home. I'm still in Huntsville, Alabama. See ya in Mid-O !
