Closest thing to me will be the Madera race that is replacing the canceled Hollister Hills race. Good two hour drive each way I figure.
I may want to go one day for the swap meet part anyway.
I'll touch down with my son-in-law and see if he wants to go riding on the ranch this weekend. I doubt if I have a bike that would pass technical inspection but he may see something he likes. You never know, he may still be interested in racing.

AHRMA National Vintage Trials, rounds 16 & 17, October 9 & 10 at Dickson TN about 40 min. West of Nashville. I will be showing up Friday morning to get in some practice before the weekend. I at least ought to see PJ, it is only about an hour away for him! I'm gonna drive 7 hours to get there... The Trials is always worth it though, I will ride one day and check one day, it's the only way I get to see all the really good riders and their rides...

I would think after those laughable 3 and 4 lines at Mid-Ohio Bob Ginder will go out of his way to make this event a real "trial".
Great people, good food, spectator friendly and some of the best vintage trials riders on the East coast. If your interested in Vintage trials at all and are close enough you should try to make this one.

Hey, trials guys--I read something about that in Vintage Views---did Murray go out and remove some obstacles in the middle of the night? What actually happened? Will they post armed guards there at this one?

My granddaughter and I checked a section together and from what we could see nothing had been "moved" at our section. We were camped with our backs to three of the sections and late Thursday afternoon there were riders walking the sections. We did hear a few bikes back there but none of those section's entrance ribbons had been broken.
I've been with AHRMA a LONG time and one of the drawbacks to AHRMA trials is that it has always been "cheater friendly". It's mostly run on an honor system and "most" of the riders will stay away from the loop and sections until the start of the event. But there's nothing to stop someone from getting there early and riding the loop and walking the sections. AHRMA has even had people get their own hole punches and "score" their own cards.
Did someone move rocks out of the way at MId-Ohio? I figure the only people who know for 100% sure are the ones who did it. Did riders go out and walk the sections early? Yes, it happens every year at almost every event. Did someone remove the flagging across a section and "practice"? It didn't happen at the sections we saw early Friday morning but if Bob Ginder says it happened, I'm pretty sure it must have.
It's sad that there's never going to be a level playing field. Some people will sink pretty low for a little piece of wood.

I did not get set up early enough to help with the initial setupon Thursday morning, but I did have the pleasure of following Bob on his final ride through the loop/sections on Thursday afternoon. during which time he did say that he tends to make the sections at Mid Ohio easier than most because of the number of people who will only ride that one event all year and the point is , after all, to have fun, not get hurt. He also told me that the Boys from the west coast have been beating him up lately about how hard his trials are. But as Bob puts it "there is a reason why they call it Trials", so his written reaction is a defence of his reputation...LOL...(he told me once he had received "hate mail" about some parts of his trials)
Did people move stuff Thursday night or Friday morning, like Hack said, only they know for sure. It seems to me that a lot of people tend to take this stuff WAY to seriously.
BTW the event at Dickson takes place in his back yard, so no guards will be needed
I'll be there.

I'm trying to follow this - and I love it - I must say I love to watch Trials. What else is happening? What's the schedule for this winter? Ice Racing?

It looks like Mid-Ohio (July 15) will be your best bet at an AHRMA Trails in 2005. By far the best way to see one is to take at least a dual-sport and volunteer as an observer...that way you are sure to see ALL of the riders. Having your own bike lets you work a section further away and gives you more "trail" time to and from the section. There will be another one in Ashtabula, Ohio (along lake Erie) on July 31(too close behind VMD for me)...
Now on October 8 and 9 Ahrma will be at Dickson Tn (about an hours drive from PJ...we could all show up at his place! hahahahahaha...)
