RE:New bike, this thing screams!!!

Kewl.
I had one for a while, years ago. Got it for $10 at a garage sale. Ran, but had a bad left-hand crank bearing. Never really rode it, and sold it away for $100.... :( Recently, I've passively looked for one, but I guess I already have too many projects.
There are even one or two websites dedicated to it. Quite a few hot-rod parts: 70cc kits, hi-compression goodies, porting, expansion chambers, the whole 2-stroke bit.
The neat part of them, other than the fact that it's a 50cc 2-stroke, is the otherwise non-bargain-basement nature of it. I mean, it has a hydraulic disk brake up front, tachometer, the works. Definitely not an el cheapo commuter.
Have fun with it!

there are TONS of upgrade stuff out there for them. I'm kinda hopin it blows up so I can "tinker"... some guys have even swaped in newer liquid cooled cr80 or cr85 engines- i'd imagine they go pretty quick with even that small engine!

They also accept fairly nicely the Honda 'lay-down' single family of engines (SL70, CT90, CT110, XL70, etc etc.) including the chinese LIFAN versions of same.
Now THERE's a motor that has potential - 140cc and a WORLD of aftermarket support.
Good luck, and happy tinkering!

I thought they were supposed to be six speed? All the MB5's/MB50's here are. You can grab out the six speed gearbox and wang it into a MB100 motor so then you have massive displacment, huge power AND the six speed box, which is much better than the MB100 4 speed.

Ahhh, the MB10. I remember reading a teaser in Cycle magazine back in '81 - '82 about the coming MB10 and the coming Kawasaki AR100 to complement the MB5 and AR80... Then, the bottom fell out of the US economy and the US motorcycle market, and they never materialized here... The MB5 sold here did, indeed, have only a 5-speed transmission. A hot-rodded MB10 with a six-speed transmission, full instrumentation & disk brakes would be a hoot! I've only seen an ad for an AR80 for sale once, and it was in rough shape... Although, personally, I liked the looks of the MB5 better than the AR80. And yet, a quick search turned up this, even today: http://redding.craigslist.org/mcy/706919638.htmlKirk
