Hello all, I am new to the board and this is my first post. I recently purchased a 1980 XL 250 and it is pretty much complete except for the engine. It comes with the bottom end, but the whole top end was removed some time ago and was never replaced. I am not sure what condition the bottom end is in, but I am now starting to think that rather than trying to piece together a top end to mount to it, it might be better to buy a new running engine and swap it. I know that the XL 500 engines from the same era are swappable with this frame, but I would love to hear about other conversions people have done. I would definitely like to up the displacement, and obviously going to the XL 500 engine would probably be my best bet, but I have been having some difficulty finding one within my price range. If you, or anyone you know, has done an engine swap for an XL 250, I would love to hear about it, especially swaps with other makes/models. I would definitely consider modifying the frame, mounts, etc.
