OK, got the stator windings out, thought they would wedge apart easily....wrong. What is a good way to separate the cores. I've tapped a sharp screwdiver between the spacers and tried to drive out the steel standoffs.....nothing is giving. So far I just have a little cosmetic damage and quit.

I could really use some ideas on this one because I don't want to screw up the laminations or windings. Chuck

OK, got this thing for $9.47 incl S&H, so I'm set to star shoving and shimming, but I hope I can figure out how to get the stator cores separated by the time it gets here! HELPKiss

RE:Separating Stator winding cores............?
(Date Posted:08/10/2008 12:10 AM)

OK guys, I guess I'm not wording this correctly because I know you're out there.......

What I'm trying to do is separate the ignition stator from the one that it is stacked with. There is a mounting post that passes thru the laminated cores and spacers that the mounting bolts pass thru.

I'm sure Honda pressed these together, but there is usually some inovative way for the DIY mechanic to go at it. The bolts are small and I don't know if a bolt/nut socket would handle it. Any hints would be greatly appreciated. Chuck

Haven't found the old stator yet.  I know it is buried but have to dig it out.

well, I bought a 5/16 steel roll pin and a 5/16 aluminum spacer.....both fit the 5 mm bolt better than the stock standoff. I plan on drilling out the stand-off down partially into the spacers and replacing the drilled out stand=offs with one of the above (with a light coating of Hi temp JB weld.

That should do a job that is at least as good as the OEM. I got my new stator in the mail today....have to scope it out to see if it's going to work before I start anything drastic. Chuck

well @#%&!! I really screwed up! I was so sure the small stator was for the ignition.........wrong!!! It's for charging the battery! The one underneath it (middle size) is for the ignitionUndecided. I screwed up the small one removing it too! Got to back off and figure where I'm at now. Chuck

Chuck, give me a couple of days to go throught my 350 parts, I'm sure I've got a stator that I won't be using.
