Can a stator be repaired. The stator in my 1973 XL is bad,

the bike has not run since 1990 . took the stator to the Honda shop

they said it was grounding out – stator was not “ floated to ground “

so I need to find one . I thought that I might try taking it apart and

look for any broken wires and solder them- any one out there

ever fixed one .I see used ones 4sail on eBay but you could get

a bad part . New on the list -

thanks much . bobknab

They can be repaired, there is even a guy that does stator rewinding for a fee of ~$75 IIRC. Having recently bought some, magnet wire is expensive! You also have to pay attention to the direction of the windings, Honda wraps adjacent windings in the opposite direction.

You can ask the seller to give you DVM readings on the stator. That may be a cheaper route to a good stator.
