Yes, it can be (relatively) easily done. I don't remember all the details myself, but Search thru this forum (SL's) and search thru the XL125 forum. There was recently a good write-up on how to do it.
It can be done with all the stock components. Essentially, you lock the mechanical advance in a fixed place, then, reposition the flywheel on the end of the crankshaft (without the key). The details are in that other write-up.
*edit* Well, I just looked. It's right here in the SL forums: How to change an SL100 to no battery ignition. DirtHippie did it and wrote it up.
