I was wondering if anyone knows whether an early (74,75,76) XL100/125 engine will fit in an SL frame?

Thanks

Adam

Yep. They fit right in.  No mods needed a'tall.

I have one now - a 74 XL100 motor in a 71 SL125 frame.

Kirk, you wouldn't happen to know if  a 77 XL engine would fit?  I know that the right side cover was changed but did honda also change the mounting dimension on the cases?

Thanks for the info,
Adam

Y'got me on that one.

Well, the engine will FIT, because I think the engine mounts got narrower as the model went on over the years, but you might have to use some spacers in the rear mounts, and perhaps fab up some new front motor mount plates.

My older brother put an '83 XL100 motor into his '75 XL100 chassis, and that's exactly what he did: washers in back and simple 1/8" plate mounts for the front.  He did this about 17 ~ 18 years ago, and STILL has & rides that bike!
