Hey there- I have a '73 SL125 with less than 1000 miles on it. After doing some work to get it running well, It started giving me some trouble shifting, specifically downshifting. The other day I cleaned up the oil screens and changed the oil and it shifted thru the gears and now won't come out of 5th. Any ideas where to start?

I'd start by looking at the shift linkage inside the clutch cover.  Pull the clutch cover and see what's up.  Any loose bits?  Any worn nubbins on the shifter 'star wheel' thingy?  Is the little roller thing loose or not riding on the edge of the star wheel?

Then, trying shifting while observing that linkage.  See any obvious hang-ups?

Good luck,

Kirk
