so, the TL250 frame is hanging from the patio cover, stripped and guess what I discovered--the two cradle (?) pieces under the engine, U shaped arrangement that is welded to the down tube in the front, on both sides is rotted out----seems the extruded tubing has a seam in it that failed and allowed water to sit in there for years---soooo---I either need to go haggle with a fabricator or get another frame--anyone have a spare 250 whole frame without this problem?

This shouldn't be a problem with a well built engine powering a lightweight bike. Swiss

I was surprised by the power difference over the 250cc engine. On a 220# bike, when you get on the throttle, you had better have it pointed where you want it to go! It's already eaten my lunch more than once... Bob...pulled the frame out from its storage space today and hope to get it out this weekend...sure you don't need some wheels... Rank:none Score:396 Posts:396 Registered:03/28/2004 Time spent: 0 hours	(Date Posted:12/07/2004 02:52:37) since you didn't have a question mark behind wheels on your previous post I assumed you wanted one--I was just getting ready to offer you a front---they look the same as the XL but I see the rear is different---anyone else need a good front wheel? either rim only or whole thing with rusty spokes but otherwise great shape-- Murray--did you go to the 298 with the same carb and exhaust? I didn't realize how tuned down the TL is vs. the XL--carb and header look like the one on my 175--------also didn't notice until I took EVERYTHING apart how many little doo dads are aluminum vs. cast iron on the XL---all the spokes and nuts and bolts and etc. stuff is already off to the plater---devil made 2 strokes, God made 4 stroke projects--- -------------------------------------------------------------- ratbikes and bull terriers http://www.community-2.webtv.net/oldrice/BritifyinganoldHonda/

The 298 was done before me and yes all the breathing stuff is stock (carb is 26mm and head pipe is 30mm) porting in the head is small like that also...I run a 32mm Mikuini on my XL (which is the intake port size)... Also prievious owner fixed that off-idle cough...retarded the timing...exactly how much I can't tell you yet, but the index on the points plate lines up with the pointer in the casting... I don't understand engines enough to have any Idea why they would de-tune them...maybe it's one of those urban myths...like the longer stroke...
