Hello,

After some time in the garage (I had new intake valves fitted),I was glad to hear my XL running again. When i started the engine for the second time my carb started flooding (even when running), . I needed to get home, so i road with the gas overlow tube up (so I didn't leave a constant stream of gas). from then on I can't seem to pass 4000 RPM. The engine sputters and loses power. I had a look at the float chamber, and when I reinstalled it, it didn't leak gas anymore. However, I still can't seem to pass 4000 RPM. I'm not sure if it gets to much or to less fuel, as I am not a real connoiseur. Can anyone help me?

Thanks,
WD-40.

I'm having the same problem and have yet to figure it out. I was hoping I would find an answer on this page but the folks with a possible remedy have yet to reveal it. Please help! I'd love to get her back on the dirt road.
BTW, Anyone out there know what can be used to replace the OEM plug cap?

It sounds like either the floats are sticking, or the main valve is worn and isnt sealing properly.
