Frank,

Several different kits were offered back "in the day" for the 350s.

Bill Bell:  3.5 slide, 6F8 needle, 220 main jet, P5-159 needle jet, 35 pilot jet and 2.0 air jet.

Jerry Branch:  3.0 slide, 6F5 needle, 230 main jet, P4-? needle jet, 30 pilot, no air jet.

White Bros.:  3.0 slide, 6DH3 needle, 220 main jet, P8-166* needle jet, 35 pilot, no air jet.

Powroll:  3.5 slide, 6F8 needle, 230-26- main jets, P5-159 needle jet, 20 pilot, no air jet.

*WB 166 cut to 5mm height (2-stroke style needle jet)

Most of these kits came with a selection of 3-4 different mains and pilots.

Swiss

Hope this helps.  Most of the kits were set up for sea level as a base.

Thanks this should get me in the ball park. This is not far off from my XT500 setup except for the slide. They seem to work best with a 2.5 and occasionalyy one likes a 3.0.I have never figured out why some motors with the same state of tune seem to like slightly different carb setups.Probably has to do with the quality of the valve job or something.

I'm running a 36mm Mikuni on my XL350 for MX, can't remember what the jetting is and it's running so good I don't want to take it apart. Don't hold me to this but 159-p5, 230 main (? fiddled with that alot), 40 pilot, 6F8, 3.0 slide. Bike runs wicked from snap of the throttle all the way thru.

RE:Jetting for 36mm Mikuni
(Date Posted:08/23/2008 7:26 AM)

Digging up an old topic here:

I' kinda new to this carb setting thing, so first a few newbie questions:
What is meant with 3.0 slide? 2.0 air jet?
I've taken my 36 mikuni apart for cleaning, but how do I remove the needle jet and the Float arm?

Thanks,

WD, the 3.0 slide is marked on the bottom as such and the number means how much cutaway the slide has. They start at 1.0 and go to 3.5. Bigger number more cutaway. More air. 2.0 air jet is the jet in the bell[back end] of the carb. Don't worry about it, it is for fine tuning your main jet. Take it out if you'd like. To remove the needle jet you take the main jet and the jet extender out and push the needle jet up out of the carb body. They are often stuck in the carb[corrosion] and can be a bitch. The float arm pin is a light press fit to the hole it goes through. The press fit is on the end of the pin that has the flange[head]. Make sure you rest that little standoff the pin goes through against something solid when you tap the pin out. They're easy to break off. That's the inlet needle and seat under there, not the needle jet. The pilot, cutaway, needle and needle jet are the parts used up to half or 3/4 throttle. THEN it goes on the main jet.  This any help? Pat Orman.

Frank2, There's a pic of that .040 over piston on the xlintperformance.com site. Sorry about my lack of memory. Pat.
