Hi guys running a big bore & stroked  350xl here in aussie vmx, had a std gearbox xrayed, shotpeened and cryoed. Its lasted about 1/2 a season, just ripped all the drive dogs of thrid gear (bugger). Whats available in the way of Webster gears, also what about the revised primary drive gear ad clutch sets i have seen on the forum. Any advice or help greatly apreciated. Thanks Mark

Mark... if you use the later centre port gears they are thicker.. 4 seasons in a C&J 412 and still going strong.. cheers Dave

Mark, That's 3rd gear on the main shaft, right? Webster gears is the only fix I know of for that. 4th gear on the counter shaft is better in the centerport motors[most of the other gears have the same part # from 74 to 78]. You have to use a right side shift fork from centerport with it. Some folks had Webster make some more last winter but the cost has become quite prohibitive. $700 a set. 6 set batch. Sorry, don't have any better news for you. Pat Orman.

Mark, Running a "cushioned" rear hub like the stock XL350 will also help and another thought is the slipper clutches. They work good for flattrack and supermoto don't know about motocross. Little pricey to adapt into the old XLs but can be done. Pat Orman.

Thanks guys, have reassembled it with the center port gearbox, have shot peened and crack tested the gears. Only have a few meetings left this season so hopefully they will last. Am also fitting a rear chain tensioner. Will need to do something during the off season though. If there are any sets of webster gears around definately interested. Also would like to find out more about the different primary drive ratio and clutch set up that i have seen on the forum. Whats the go with the slipper clutch Pat. The motor is fitted into a Bultaco Pursang frame so its a bit hard to fit a rear cush drive not impossible though i guess, i have the motor out to 515cc and turning out 47 horsepower always new the gearbox was going to be the weak point just hoped the cryogenics would help.
Thanks again guys Mark

Mark, I haven't tried to adapt any myself but know someone who has. Believe he said it cost him about $1400-1500 to do. Not surprising, the clutch costs about $900 I think. Pat Orman.
