I just got a 79 Honda XL 500 S in decent shape, it was a little abused, but it was complete, not a single bolt or anything it was missing. The question is, the engine and crankcase were a little aluminum-rusted, so i tried a shower of 12 hs  of degreasant from Ultra One, my mistake was putting it without diluting it, so then the aluminum look from the crankcases disappeared, now it's an horrible dark color, any ideas for this? should i paint it, or try to polish it? i think that polished will never look nice. Does it comes any paint that can handle that temperature? Thanks for any help.

Hi, thanks for the info, do you know the name and color for the caliper paint that you use? The engine of your 79' 500 is painted with that paint? it looks very nice and original. Thanks. Christian
