I've recently purchased an 83 XL600 (got it from the original owner with 7200 miles) and have been fighting with getting it to run correctly beyond about 3/4 throttle, mainly when running on the secondary carb. The bike runs great up to that point then essentially bogs/cuts out. The bike was purchased in CA and has a supertrapp on it. I live in CO at about 5k feet. I popped the main jets out of each carb, they'd never been changed - main #125, second #112. Checked the plug - white as snow. It was obviously lean, which in doing research, looks like the norm with early XL's. The carbs have been cleaned, and I've been working on upping the jets to see if this will rectify the hesitation/cutting out I'm getting when engaging the secondary carb. As of yesterday and after a lot of trial and error, I put a 128 in on the main and 122 on the secondary. I'm going to drop the secondary down to a 118 because at this elevation 122 is a little rich. I also popped the "snorkel" out of the airbox to get air moving better. As mentioned, the bike runs great... until it's basically pegged then it surges, hesitates, etc. I've dug around on the forums here and have seen several similar issues with the dual carb setup but couldn't find anything that exactly matched what I'm experiencing.  Regardless of the main jets I'm messing with the bike still runs poorly when rolling hard on and hard off the throttle.  Just wondering if anyone has any input on this. Thanks for your time!
