I recently purchased an '87 Honda XL 600R for $250. It won't kickstart or idle. We took it out to the woods and roll started it. It runs great and throttle response is good. The only issue I have is the no start and idle. Several people have told me to go one step larger on the Pilot Jet in the Primary Carb and it should help with both Idle and starting. Why would a larger pilot jet make a difference and which side is the Primary carb?

The primary carb is the left one if your sitting on the bike. I have replaced the pilot jet on my 350 with the carbs in the bike so it may be possible on yours as well. I doubt thats why it wont start as it would just be a little lean. The larger jet would make a difference if it is to lean at idle as honda did like to do its gonna let the bike take in more gas at idle and also everywhere else.
