hi i just bought a 1975 xl 250 and it really needs some work... i need to know were i can get a faw parts for cheap and want to know how to do some electrical wotk on it. i have put a taillight on it and pretty much rebuilt the carb and it runs like a beast from hell. i need to know were i can get a left handle bar control or a way to rig it because the little thumb button broke off. also i need a battery wire that goes from the battery to the wiring harness and a new seat and a new headlight.

I have the same bike and have found everything I needed on Ebay for cheap. I know people will tell you different, but you'll find alot of good sources and people parting out bikes, Rusty Riders, etc...

also is the a way to make my clutch work better?it seems to slip a bit then grip... and i barely have to  pull in the clutch handle for it to disengage

also i need a way to get the rust out of the tank. it keeps clogging up the petcock and the bike shuts off. either that or a tank that would fit made out of plastic

For the clutch, sounds like you have the cable adjusted too tight. Turn the adjuster near  the hand lever in so that you add slack to the cable.

I created a tank rotisserie for my tanks. I put bb's and screws in the tank and rotate the tank for hours, I set up the rotisserie so that I can turn the tank on different angles to remove the rust. Its driven by a gear motor. You can also send them out to be dipped and coated, or buy kits yourself. Kits are around 75.  I talked to a guy that wraps his tanks in a blanket and then puts screws the tank and chucks the blanket in his tumble clothes dryer. (With the heat off). Then another guy that puts his tank in a small cement mixer, and another guy that bungied them to his large farm tractor tire...
