I've got a '76 XL250 due for a top end rebuild. As I remember from when I replaced the cam chain, the cam journals are scored. To what extent I don't remember. Just how much scoring can be tolerated, assuming the oil clearance is within spec?
What is this bushing mod I've seen mentioned elsewhere here? I'm assuming the cam is turned down and bushings pressed on, the O.D. being the required for a good fit with the still worn journals. How much less, or more, can silicon-bronze handle the scoring? What wall thickness is required for the bushings?
Making the split middle bushing sounds like a pain in the arse. How does the Megacycle cam deal with the middle bearing?

Megacycle camshafts lines bore your head and converts to a ball bearing, anew billet camshaft is required.

In the automotive world there are also car engines where the camshaft rides directly in the cylinder head and there is  repair procedure where the head is line bored and split cam bearings are installed.  I believe this could be adapted to the Honda but have not seen it done.
Several years ago I came accross a Web site where a guy in West Virgina advertised a service that sounded like that process on the Honda single but I believe the person passed away.  I believe the person's name was Hoyt.

I am facing the same predicament.

The journals in the rocker box usually doesnt wear much at all so they can be left as is.  All the wear is usually in the cylinder journals.

What we are going to try is to skim 20thou off the top of the cylinder head (the face that joins the rocker box). Then use a fly cutter to cut a new half circle in the cylinder head. This will line up with the existing semi-circle journal of the rocker box. The cam will sit 20thou lower though this should not be a problem.

Hopefully it all works.

Xlint performance will mod your head and supply you with a new cam and bearing.  Cam is ~$350 and boring is ~$150 if I remember right.
