I lost tension on the clutch lever at the handlebars and figured the adjustment on the clutch lever in the engine case had come loose.  I popped the rubber stopper out of the side and engine oil came out.  I was under the impression that the clutch adjustment was not lubricated with engine oil.  Is that correct?  I replaced the side case gasket with a Honda gasket when I rebuilt the engine and its not leaking outside the engine, but I guess it could be leaking internally.  Do I have a problem?

The clutch adjustment was loose and I adjusted and tightened it up and the clutch works fine.

Mine leaks too. There was another thread talking about it. From other KZ engines I have worked on there is an oil seal the clutch push rod goes thru. Not a huge deal that it leaks. Mine was missing the rubber plug. once I added the plug it kept mine from dripping on the garage floor.

Dennis, You replaced that seal when you rebuilt the engine didn't you? The seal itself is not the problem usually. It's the clutch mechanism and side cover that cause the leak usually. Take the long pushrod out, polish where seal will ride and reverse it. The side covers are usually worn where the short pushrod goes[bore]. Pull the clutch in and the short rod cocks sideways pushing the long rod sideways a little and opens the seal. Oil pressure is right behind that seal and squirts a little oil out each time. Fix; pull the outsde rubber plug and drain every so often, get a good side cover or machine and bush old one. Pat Orman.

Are you guys referring to a KZ or an XL? Isn't this an XL forum?  I am interested in finding out how to adjust the clutch on my 1977 XL350 centerbore.  Also, I have an issue with the bike starting fine but will only accelerate with the choke pulled.  Is there a jet clogged?  I cleaned the carb once and it seemed to be ok, but it's been sitting again for the past few months and will only "get on it" with the choke out.  HELP!
