Basically you have to use a meter or lamp to make sure your points just open at TDC. To do it correct/complete you should remove the rocker cover to check valve position and clutch cover to check magneto timing (F point aligned with the case mark). Assuming the F mark coincidence is correct and cam (valve timing) are correct, you can remove the plug and check your piston at TDC and adjust the points (remove primary coil wire) just begin to open.....that sets your point timing and should run great.
