Hey, I just bought my first XL. It's a 1978 XL350, its a little beat up but at 500 bucks it is what it is. I just took it out for a quick boot and it just ain't right. It seems to idle well and up above 4500 RPM's it seems ok. When you get onto the gas hard it falls on its face. I pulled the carb apart it doesn't look to bad jets seem not to bad. I am thinking that there might be a bit of nick on the diaphram. Does this sound like they would be linked. Any ideas would be great. thanks.

John

Go ahead and clean the carb; tap out the main jet and let soak or spray the crap out of it. Check the timing advance and point gap .014

Did you take the air cut off valve off?  If the diaphram has a hole in it it won't run right.
