Hello everyone. New to the forum. I have a 1977 Xl100 that looks pretty much showroom new with 1100 miles.
Barn find so to speak.
I cleaned carbs, changed oil, new plug, new battery etc....
Everything electrical works.
First time I started it up, it ran for 2 or three minutes and I started to see smoke from the front of the bike!

Panic mode...shut it off and look for source of smoke.

After searching high and low and running the bike again, I found the smoke to be coming from the headlight resistor with the white wire that plugs into the headlight bucket.

This resistor is mounted on the handlebars and is about 2 inched long...It gets extremely hot and begins to smoke!

Why is it doing this and is there a work around to remove this resistor or update it with something else??

Go soothingly on the grease mud ... as there lies the skid demon! ...
