Last summer I purchased a 1978 XL175 at a swap meet. The carb looks like it has had some recent work, but has not run reliably since I purchased it.
I did fully disassemble the carb and cleaned in berrymann's soak and reassembled - no improvement.
I installed and adjusted new float and needle seat to stop the over flow of gas thru the overflow drain tube - no improvement.
I played with the pilot jet (one turn out +/-) and idle screw - still cannot get to run reliably.
The spark plug fouls quickly which leads me to believe it is running rich (smells rich) and my Gunson Colortune shows orange combustion confirming rich mixture.
The airbox is factory and intact, and the filter is new.
I would like to know if anyone has the factory jet sizes or jet needle clip position and tips for tuning this carb to make this bike run well again.
