Hi, 1982 250R  just swapped stator, still got a poor spark, now thinking it is the CDI unit?
engine starts and runs ok, but snatch of throttle open and it dies... but comes back if throttle reduced.. revs well when throttle turned on slower.
any thoughts...???

Not having owned an xl with no points, I would not know, other bikes I have worked on usually have the pick up mounted along side the rotor, I then use feeler gauges to see the gap size and check the manual to see if correct, I have also used a multi meter on the ohms scale and see what resistance I get as the rotor passes the pick up coil,

Been told today that it would be a poor faint orange spark on kick over test, then running, when revving it would become good white/blue spark.  So now thinking carb probs..!
